All Ethernet-based protocols (including TCP/IP communication) can be transmitted with real-time data at the same time using the same cable. An unfavorable ratio between the Ethernet overhead and the user data volume is avoided since process data does not have to be transmitted in individual telegrams but is consolidated in one summation framework telegram.

Sercos allows fail-safe communication: Cable breaks in a ring configuration are recognized within 25μs which means that data is lost for a maximum of one cycle. Copper or fiberglass cables ensure robust cabling.
